How it works

Reflexology is an ancient form of Chinese massage, first developed in the form of 'Zone Therapy' in the early 1900's by Dr William Fitzgerald (American ENT Specialist). He described ten longitudinal zones of equal width throughout the body, with a flow of energy linking areas within each zone. In each zone, the body parts are linked to the corresponding reflex (or nerve ending) in the same zone of the feet / hands.

Pressure is applied in a very gentle technique using the thumb, to reflexes in the feet or hands.
When the pressure technique is applied, it
allows this flow of energy to pass through the body, freeing any blockages that may have occured due to illness or injury, and hence recreating energy balance.  It is thus effective in detoxifying, as well as, amongst many things, boosting the immune system. Many conditions and ailments can therefore be treated through Reflexology.

There are also Zone-Related areas, whereby certain areas of the body have a special relationship to another body part on the same side of the body.

This includes:

  • shoulder - hip
  • elbow - knee
  • wrist - ankle
  • hand - foot

For example, a fracture to the left ankle could be helped in the healing process, through treating the reflex of the left wrist.
